Welcome to EnviroJustice!

Gregory HileWhen I was working for a well-known environmental group not too long ago, I contacted the environmental affairs director at a large, international corporation. By way of introduction, he asked me to tell him a little bit about myself and when I mentioned in passing that I was an ordained minister he launched into a theological discussion about the relationship between human beings and the rest of creation. He had been raised to believe in the dominion model — that humans have control and domination over creation — but he really wanted to be a steward of the earth and was looking for guidance to reconcile his faith with his worldview. It was then that I realized that while life's circumstances had caused me to leave pastoral ministry, ministry had never left me!

My friends, welcome to EnviroJustice. We are a new organization that promotes fundamental systemic change in order to bring about a better world for all who inhabit it, and we will fight for environmental justice through education, activism and mobilization from a progressive, faith-based perspective. We are global in scope and local in focus.

Like the Civil Rights Movement that helped to launch the drive for environmental justice, we see the world through a different lens. Although rooted in the Judeo-Christian tradition, EnviroJustice is deeply ecumenical and strongly based in science. We understand the influence of the corporate sector and the power global financial institutions hold in the marketplace and we know how to leverage that influence and power to achieve real change in the world.

There will be opportunities for you to support and participate in the work of EnviroJustice. This website will be a source for news on the environmental justice front, it will contain links to other resources and blogs, action alerts, and much more. Stay tuned and join us as we move forward in this exciting new venture! Greg signature
