EnviroJustice Fiscal Sponsorship
At the heart of EnviroJustice's mission is the notion that fundamental systemic change happens at the local, grassroots level. Many of these projects, be they neighborhood organizations created in response to a threat to their community, or a documentary film project that educates the public, are formed and energized by an individual or neighborhood organization and are too small or too new to have their non-profit charitable status recognized by the IRS. Projects which are temporary in nature may also be ideal candidates for fiscal sponsorship, because this allows the project to focus on achieving its program objectives rather than the administrative issues and costs inherent in forming and establishing a new non-profit corporation and seeking IRS recognition of charitable status.
Our services are modeled after for-profit business incubators. We offer strategic planning, management and fundraising assistance for qualifying organizations and projects. In a fiscal sponsorship relationship, EnviroJustice extends its non-profit, charitable umbrella over organizations and projects whose mission and objectives closely match our own.
Basically, what happens is this:
-
A binding, written agreement is executed between the project and EnviroJustice.
-
Projects operating under EnviroJustice sponsorship solicit donations payable to EnviroJustice. This allows donors to receive the full benefits of making a tax-deductable, charitable donation.
-
We then place the donations in a special restricted fund dedicated only to the support of that project.
-
Grants are then disbursed to the project on a regular basis we all agree upon.
-
The project provides to us regular reports documenting its activities and expenditures in accordance with the terms of written fiscal sponsorship agreement. We also provide to the project regular reports of what we have done on the project.
Since each fiscal sponsorship relationship is designed based on the needs of the project, we strongly encourage applicants to consult with us before applying. We charge a sliding-scale percentage fee of donations received for the project to cover our costs.
To be considered for fiscal sponsorship, please download the fiscal sponsorship application. The application may be submitted by mail or e-mail. We will contact you as soon as possible upon receiving the application.
